Concordia University, St. Paul is pleased to announce the launch of its first Ph.D. program, Kinesiology, available beginning in fall 2022. The creation of the university’s first Ph.D. is the next step in the evolution and expansion of CSP’s academic portfolio.
Two years after the university began offering an Ed.D. in Kinesiology, the Ph.D. arrives as the natural progression for those who aim to add to that strong foundation. The Ph.D. in Kinesiology degree at CSP is a research-focused program that will help vault graduates into top careers in academia and beyond.
“As CSP’s first Ph.D.-level degree program, the Ph.D. in Kinesiology offers students an exceptional blend of academic research courses and advanced studies in Kinesiology. While our Ed. D. focuses on practical applications, the Ph.D. has a distinct focus on research-centered work,” said Kevin Hall, Vice President of Academic Affairs.
The program offers a convenient and valuable Ph.D. with a significant research emphasis. Professionals who pursue their Ph.D. at CSP will also appreciate that the degree was built with busy careers in mind.
“There was a demand from kinesiology professionals in the field looking for terminal degree options, specifically one that offered flexibility and affordability so it can be completed while maintaining their careers. The long-term goal is to assist these professionals in obtaining their terminal degrees and achieving their personal career goals while improving the industry,” said Dr. Lana Huberty, Dean of the College of Kinesiology.
Creating a program that allowed students to gain expertise in areas that matter to them was a top priority, according to Dr. Matthew Buns, Director of Kinesiology Doctorate Programs at Concordia.
“In traditional doctoral programs students are forced to jump through hoops because that’s the way it’s always been,” said Dr. Buns. “However, at CSP our program is student-centric. We don’t take a one size fits all approach to a doctorate degree – so you will have a number of opportunities to explore topics of personal and professional interest to you.”
With the addition of the new degree, CSP now boasts a comprehensive health sciences offering from undergraduate through Ph.D. The move makes Concordia an extremely attractive option for those who are pursuing any number of careers in health science.
“Our graduates overwhelmingly report how engaging the courses are and how much information they obtain and can apply. CSP’s bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees in exercise science, both offered completely online, are consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally. We anticipate this trend will continue and that obtaining our degree indicates you have the highest level of integrity, credibility, and knowledge in your field,” added Dr. Buns.
At the end of the day, the overall mission of the program is to foster student success while helping them achieve personal and professional goals.
“Students will be surrounded by faculty who support them every step of the way,” Dr. Buns emphasized. “In our program you are not alone and we want you to succeed in graduating.”
